The Honourable Madam Justice Janice leMaistre has been appointed to the Manitoba Court of Appeal.
Madam Justice leMaistre graduated law school in 1991. She held a number of positions at Provincial Prosecutions between 1991 and 2006, practicing in the Family Violence Unit as a Senior Supervising Crown Attorney. Her career as a Crown Attorney focussed on prosecuting abuse of children, spouses and the elderly, as well as assize and appellate work. She was also a major contributor to the development of the award winning Domestic Violence Front End Project.
In November of 2006, the Province of Manitoba announced that Justice leMaistre had been appointed to the Provincial Court of Manitoba. At that time, she was Acting Director of Manitoba Prosecutions. She sat as a Provincial Court Judge until September 2009, when she became the Associate Chief of the Provincial Court.
Madam Justice leMaistre is replacing the Honourable Madam Justice Steel, who became supernumerary on May 1, 2014.
